Chairman. I appreciate the gentlemans intent on trying to fix a problem that clearly needs to be fixed. We do not dispute the idea that individuals applying for and receiving an immigration benefit should be properly vetted and screened and that any and all allegations of fraud should be thoroughly investigated. as I indicated earlier when I thanked Mr. SENSENBRENNER for joining me in an amendment that would create a single database for fraudulent documents and have reports made back to Congress on the trends. I believe that individuals should be vetted and screened and that any and all allegations of fraud should be thoroughly investigated. but the problem is various agencies involved have been incredibly negligent in ensuring that the checks and investigations are performed in a timely fashion.
