Mr. Chairman. I yield myself such time as I may consume. 1. once again. admire the passion of the gentleman from New Jersey and assure the gentleman that I hold in high esteem the contributions immigrants have made. are making and will continue to make to this country. I believe. however. that it is essential that we put it on a legal basis in fairness to those who are coming here legally and also because of the situation that developed after 9/11. Having said that. I have the greatest respect for the gentleman from New Jersey. and he and I. in our own way. will be able to resolve some of our differences.
