Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090096821

The Filipino veterans fought with gallantry under the most difficult conditions during the war and played a heroic role in defending freedom under the American Flag. However. the Recession Act of 1946 diverted Filipino soldiers of the veteran status and. consequently. the veterans benefits. The Immigration Act of 1990 gave 150.000 Filipino veterans of World War I the opportunity to migrate to the United States and a chance to fulfill an American Dream as promised by President Roosevelt. Although this is a step in the right direction. granting equitable benefits for Filipinos that fought with America in World War II would be an excellent way to recognize contributions FilipinoAmericans have made to our country. since we all benefit from the freedom won in that war.
