At Detroit on 4/20/2004 our hearing was "Northern Ice: Stopping Methamphetamine Precursor Chemical Smuggling Across the U.S.-Canada Border." We had the director of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area in Detroit. as well as the Homeland Security. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement person. a special agent in charge of DEA. and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection person in charge of Detroit. In Detroit they had brought down a pseudoephedrine ring that was supplying at that time 40 percent of the illegal pseudoephedrine coming into the United States. It was the biggest bust in American history and dried up much of the quantity of pseudoephedrine that was coming in.
