Session #109 · 2005–07

Speech #1090091812

We unfortunately have also closed the door on talented workers who drive our companies competitiveness. Our leading hightech companiescompanies like Intel. Microsoft. and HewlettPackardare imploring Congress to raise the cap for visas for highlyskilled workers--known as H1B visas. These visas are capped at 65.000. That limit is so out of line with demand that we reached the 2005 cap months before 2005 began. Todays visa and immigration restrictions also make it difficult for major American companies to employ and train their workforce. Take this example: A global American entertainment company with headquarters In New York hired Indian managers to run its Bangalore office. The company wanted to train these new hires to company standards. as it does with all employees. The company wanted to send the new hires to New York to receive this training. as it does with all management. The company applied for visas on behalf of Its soontobe Indian office managers. What happened? The company filed the paperwork.
