Speech #1050198776

Today the situation in their country continues to be complex however. A movement toward a just and lasting peace is evident. Congress has the opportunity to expand the advancement for peace by passing H.R. 4293 which would provide 12.000 visas over 3 years. each visa having a duration of 36 months. These temporary nonimmigrant visas would be made available to young individuals from the most volatile areas of northern Ireland in order to allow them the opportunity to partake in programs in the United States to further expand and develop their job skills. It is important to point out that these skills would be crucial to bringing economic opportunities to local communities in northern Ireland and thus further enhancing the Peace Process. In addition. these individuals would have the opportunity to work in one of the most diverse and socially interactive environments in the world. and that is. the United States of America.
