I am proud to represent this area. and I would like to invite my colleagues to visit this area any time they are passing through my State. That entire area of the State is the most popular tourist attraction in the State of Texas now. The fort was a key post in the defense of west Texas and thus played a major role in this regions history. From 1854 to 1891. troops at the post guarded immigrants. freighters. and stage coaches on the San AntonioEl Paso Road. Fort Davis is the best remaining example in the Southwest of the typical postCivil War frontier fort. The post has extensive surviving structures and ruins.
