Session #105 · 1997–99

Speech #1050196507

As we heard earlier. there have been many successful efforts to combat money laundering. What many of those stories overlooked Is that this criminal activity has been a plague in rommuoiLier. like the one that I represent. for years. There are many great local law enforcement officials who have been working hard altd who have been successful at stopping these criminals. To many. money laundering seems like something from a spy novel. To the families and the communities that I represent. these criminal enterprises are a reality. The fact. remains that these criminals are attracted to lowincome and immigrant communities. That is how I became Involved. About 4 years ago.
