Session #105 · 1997–99

Speech #1050192157

Mr. Speaker. I thank the gentleman for yielding time to me. and he is quite right. Mr. Speaker. I rise in support of this rule and the compromise legislation offered by my good friend. the gentleman from Texas . chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims. This legislation is the product of extensive work and deliberation between the Committee on the Judiciary. the gentleman from Texas (Chairman SMITH). and the hightech industry. I believe it represents an effective compromise that addresses the needs of the hightech industry and also provides important and necessary protections for American workers. Mr. Speaker. this country has a vested interest in ensuring that our policies encourage the continued growth of the booming high technology industry.
