The company currently has 1.100 openings nationwide. These unfilled jobs are not helping this company to expand and create more jobs. Procter & Gamble is another Ohiobased company that uses H1B visas to hire about six to ten foreign nationals a year. Some people may wonder why such a low number of employees are so essential to a companys productivity. but these specialized scientists. many with doctoral degrees. are needed for key projects. Reaching this years arbitrary limit on H1B visas will prevent all employers from filling such specialized positions until the next fiscal year begins. thus delaying some key projects for up to 6 months. When those key projects are delayed. this means other American workers cannot work. other American workers will not be able to work on these projects. In our global marketplace. competitiveness demands that our companies be able to beat their overseas competitors to market. Any delay in the product cyclefrom innovation or creation to productionimpedes such competitiveness and could result in such companies moving their operations overseas where such hiring limitations do not exit for their overseas competitors. Also. in a global marketplace. it only makes sense that small and large domestic companies must cater to a wide range of customer preferences and needsthey must know what the traditions and cultures of all of the countries are that they serve. I would rather have these companies hire a few foreign workers under our H1B visa program. rather than have these companies move their base of operationsand American jobs--overseas. The best and the brightest of the foreign workforce are brought into our country under the H1B system. These are productive men and women who create innovative technologiesmany receiving patents for the U.S. companies they work forand whose ideas launch new projects and. thus. create new jobs for our domestic workforce. I am a firm believer in educating and training our domestic workforce from within. so that this shortage of highly skilled labor may one day be solved.
