With reference to this administration. it needs to be clear that there is more that can be done. but a lot has been done. Last year. the President imposed sanctions on Sudan because of the persistent and severe persecution of Christians and others by the Government of Sudan. Religious persecution refugees. more than any other category of refugees. we are granting them asylum here in the United States. The President sent 20.000 United States troops. and most of us in this body backed that effort. to Bosnia to keep the peace to help end religionbased conflict. Secretary of State Albright and other U.S. officials have raised religious persecution in numerous meetings with foreign officials. quiet and sometimes not so quiet.
