I introduced a resolution honoring him. and I am pleased to note that this resolution passed the Senate by unanimous consent on October 30. 1987. I am even more heartened today to be able to send him the good wishes of this body on his 100th birthday. A century of music. indeed. Mr. Berlin emigrated from Russia with his family at the age of 5. and became a resident of the Lower East Side of New York City. His father died when he was 8 years old and Mr. Berlin was forced to leave school to contribute to the support of his family.
