Session #105 · 1997–99

Speech #1050128811

The genocide of Cambodia is not an event of the far distant past. It is yesterdays tragedy. One has only to walk among the Cambodian refugees housed in camps on the ThaiCambodian to understand the sadness. the poignancy. the emptiness of the lives of the survivors. For them. the only memorial to a holocaust is the refugee camp where they waitwait for the long trip home when times are better and their country is restored to normalcy. And. so today. we pass the legislation that at the very least gives greater credence to our abhorrence of genocide. I remain perplexed.
