The United Slates and Greece have enjoyed a long and dose relationship. The people of the United States recognize and revere Greece as the cradle of the democratic tradilion that has allowed this country to rise to the heights of Its greatness. We are fortunate to have benefitted from Ihe contributions of those Immigrants from Greece who have contributed their toll. their knowledge and their culture to our American civilization. and we appreciate the warmth of the citizens of Greece reflected in the welcome they provide to Americans who are fortunate enough to be able to visit the shores of Greece. fis beautiful Islands and countryside. Greece plays an Important role in helping to stabilize the Balkans. one of the more dangerous neighborhoods of Europe. I was prvi. leged yesterday to host a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Greece.
