Session #105 · 1997–99

Speech #1050101347

Like the gentlewoman from Florida . said. I will support the ultimate bill because I feel that it is no more than fair to the District of Columbia that has been burdened in an equivalent manner. and in my view has not been treated as fairly as they should be. But all the gentlewoman from Florida sought in the Committee on Rules was an amendment that would allow for an upordown vote on whether or not the Haitian refugees. particularly those that came through Guantanamo. would receive the same consideration as everyone else. Neither the gentlewoman from Florida nor I take any back seat to supporting all of the efforts of those who we represent in south Florida. I support Nicaraguans. and I think that they should receive an amnesty that they have received.
