This bill treats our southern and northern borders exactly the same. It makes no distinction. Again. this bill is an affirmation of two important national policies. one. that we have a right and duty to control our borders. and. two. that it is in the best interest of the United States and our neighbors both to the north and south to act so as to facilitate trade and border crossings. Our task in the House today is to ensure that border crossings will not be substantially impeded while we also protect the Nations interest in being able to control our borders.
