This Is a sad day. I have only been a Member of this body for less than a year. I cannot remember. though. any nominee who has come before the Senate Judiciary Committee who had a more compelling personal story about his life and his family. Bill Lann Lee is an extraordinary man. the son of Chinese immigrants. His parents came to this country penniless and started a hand laundry in New York. His mother. who sat with him at the confirmation hearing. sat in the window of that hand laundry her entire life in front of a sewing machine.
