I rise in support of H.R. 2358. Too often our discussions of Chinas horrendous human rights conditions are limited to the issue of trade. Today we can discuss human rights independently. demonstrating its true significance to us in the United States. Perhaps Columbia University Professor Andrew Nathan expressed it best when he stated. "Human rights in China are of national interest to the United States. Countries that respect the rights of their citizens are less likely to start wars. export drugs. harbor terrorists. or produce refugees. The greater the power of the country without human rights. the greater the danger to the United States." Mr. Speaker.
