Hundreds of thousands of dedicated workersmany of them immigrants working for low wagesgave their lives to build Americas railroads. Today. railroads employees use their skills to keep the railroads safeto move freight and passengers quickly and efficiently. When Amtrak was founded in 1971. the Federal Government made a compact with its workers.
