I favor the $5.3 billion for the Violent Crime Reduction Trust Fund. the $497 million increase for the Immigration and Naturalization Service which would provide for 1.000 new border control agents and 2.700 more detention cells. the increase by $129 million for the Drug and Enforcement Administration. $112 million more for the National Institute of Standards and Technology. $250 million for the Legal Services Corporation [LSC]. including more thorough oversight by the Congress of the LSC without overburdening its effective administration. the Advanced Technology Program (ATP]. National Endowment for Democracy. and increase by $1 million for fiscal year 1998 funding for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to equip the agency to defend national. state. local and territorial law adversely affected by international agreements.
