Only a quarter of these cuts go to people making less than $100.000 a year. Thirtysix percent of these cuts go to the top 1 percent of income earners. With due respect to the President. and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle--this budget does contain some hardwon provisionsbut lets not forget they were fought for and wonby poor people. working people. and advocates for children and immigrants. This bill does Include expanded health insurance for poor children. The bill restores benefits to legal immigrants who become disabled and it guarantees minimum wage and workplace protections to workfare participants. But 5 million children who need health insurance will not be covered. Legal immigrants will not receive food stamps. And our Nations schools that need serious rebuilding so they can move our children into the 21st century and get connected to the information superhighway do not have the funds they need.
