I know of Customs agents of MexicanAmerican heritage who have been told by drug smugglers to look the other way as cocaine. heroin. marijuana. and methamphetamines are smuggled across the border because their families back in Mexico will be harmed if they do not. Just this morning. a friend of mine called me to tell me about his friend who lives in Carrizo Springs. He described gangs of drug thugs and illegal immigrants who are terrorizing residents of this small Texas community. They are scared and they feel helpless. These Texans have the misfortune to live along the front lines of a business that provides $10 billion to the Mexican economy each yearthe drug market.
