Mr. President. I rise today in support of the conference report to H.R. 2202. legislation to combat the problem of illegal immigration. As you know. this measure has been included in the omnibus appropriations bill for fiscal year 1997. The conference report is an important step forward in our Nations fight against illegal immigration to this country. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a conferee to the negotiations with the House. I am pleased to have been part of the hard work. commitment and bipartisanship that yielded this good. balanced bill. of which we can all be proud.
