Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040270509

There is a handful of people who do want to circle the wagons. seal the country up. forget that we are a nation of immigrants. and I am tired of the liberal part of the news media going after them for quotes. They are not part of the debate. It is the average generous American who says I believe in the Statue of Liberty. I believe in the Golden Gate. "Send us your tired. your poor. your huddled masses. yearning to breathe free. the wretched refuge of your teaming shores. Send these. the homeless. tempesttost to me. I lift my lamp beside the door." That was punishment from a nun in the sixth grade. but I love Emma Lazarus words.
