Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040269100

He was not only in San Diego but he was in Los Angeles and he was throughout our State telling people. I am going to work with Congress and we are going to try to protect you from this flood of illegal aliens that is draining all the money from our health care. The health care system in California is breaking down. The education system is breaking down. We have illegal immigrants coming to our country and immediately going on SSI. draining billions of dollars which should be going to our own senior citizens. Instead. it is being drained away. Believe me. a few years from now. if this President has his way. we will find the Social Security system is in a crisis. and he will be like. oh my gosh. it is in a crisis. and he will not relate it back to this decision today. He promised us he would help us solve this problem. Tonight he is telling us that he will shut down the government unless we agree to give welfare payments to illegal immigrants into our State. He will shut down the Government unless we agree to let people who have never paid into the system receive Social Security benefits. that he is going to shut down the government unless illegal aliens get the same tuition as local residents. Whose side is he on? What he is doing tonight is adding injury to insult. The insult is that he lied to us in the first place. The injury is that we have a wonderful immigration bill. something that will come to grips with this terrible problem that is threatening the wellbeing of our citizens. and he is threatening to close down the Government unless we trash that bill. The people of California had better understand what is going on here. We have a Democratic process.
