Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040267550

Mr. Speaker. I rise in opposition to this legislation granting States the option to deny public education to undocumented alien children. This provision is strongly opposed by the Fraternal Order of Police and the vast majority of law enforcement organizations because it will kick children out onto the streets. where they are likely to become victims of--or parties to--crime. As a matter of fact this bill represents yet another in a long series of Republican proposals which are weak on crimefrom trying to repeal the assault weapons ban. to trying to repeal 100.000 cops on the beat. failing to ban copkiller bullets. opposing extending the Brady bill to apply to domestic violence. and failing to get tough on terrorists by placing taggants in explosive materials or giving law enforcement the investigative tools they need.
