Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040253568

President Clinton said yesterday that he will sign the bill. and he said that he will work hard. I presume next Congress. to correct what he thinks is wrong. He pointed out that these draconian cuts in food nutrition programs and in assistance to legal immigrants are wrong. they have nothing to do with reform. He is absolutely right. Personally. it is difficult for me to say. well. with the exception of these draconian cuts in food assistance programs for children and the elderly. with the exception of these draconian cuts for children with disabilities. and draconian cuts for legal immigrants. this is a pretty good bill otherwise. I cant make that argument. But I will work with the President because. clearly. this is going to pass. and. quite clearly. corrective action is going to have to be taken next Congress.
