Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040242206

If you are a poor person in Rhode Island. you will not be treated the same as if you are a poor person in a State like Tennessee. which has got a much better economy than we have in Rhode Island. Finally. my last point is that what this bill does to legal residents is shameful. To cut assistance to people who already pay taxes and in fact taxpaying. legal residents who do not enjoy many of the exemptions that regular citizens enjoy because they have not attained citizenship. They will be denied the same benefits as citizens. This to me represents no more than the same immigrant bashing that this maJority has continued all 2 years it has been in the majority.
