I also oppose the portion of the bill that prohibits funds from being used to benefit persons not lawfully within the United States. School officials throughout the U.S. would then be required to determine the citizenship status of every student and their parents. This would create a paper nightmare. and would turn local school districts into miniimmigration services. Most immigrants. documented or not. most likely will remain in the United States. If we do not educate these individuals. they will end up on the streets. Instead of contributing to the tax base of our society. these children would only add to the longterm problems of homelessness and crime.
