Chairman. as the gentleman knows. smuggling in the border region of eastern San Diego County has reached epidemic proportions. A large portion of the border region consists of lands managed by the BLM and National Forest System. To stem this tide of smuggling. the Border Patrol needs additional border fencing and access to roads on these Federal lands. I know the gentleman is familiar with the committees report. which identifies this border region as an area of high priority. It is my hope that it is the chairman$ intention to urge strong measures to help stem the massive flow of illegal aliens and narcotics plaguing this area.
