Our courts have ruled as recently as 2 years ago that the current affidavit of sponsorship is not legally enforceable. This legislation will hope to breathe the fire of enforceability into that affidavit. My concern. Mr. President. is not only that we are dealing with legal aliens in a bill described as illegal immigration. and carries with it all of the momentum and all of the emotion and passion that that title brings. but also that we are placing the Federal Government in a position of being the deadbeat dad of immigration. And how is that? The Federal Government determines how many legal aliens can come into this country.
