Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040203594

President. we have discussed some of the economic issues earlier and also some of the other reasons for increasing the minimum wage. I find it so difficult to explain to people in my State and around this country why we should not raise it for families that are working. playing by the rules. trying to provide for their families and escape poverty. I find it. particularly when we have a majority of the Members of the Senate that support that measure. difficult to comprehend why we continue to go through these gymnastics here on the floor of the Senate to pretend that there is a filibuster on illegal immigration. when the real filibuster is on the minimum wage. That is what the real filibuster is. If we were able to get a vote on that.
