They say nothing. In October 1994 I came to the floor to introduce legislation. The bill also directed the Secretary of Health and Human Services to identify and compile data on the immigrant communities in this country that continue this practice. and to develop recommendations for the education of medical school students so that they can treat women that have been mutilated by this ritual. I am pleased to say that we have been successful in having the directives to the Secretary of Health and Human Services accepted in the omnibus appropriations bill which passed last week. We have made that progress.
