Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040201783

Here we are at a quarter of 3. having thought we were really making progress. and finding ourselves tied up on an issue which is of enormous importance and in which the Senator from Wyoming and the Senator from California and other Members have spent a long time and understand how important it is as an issue for this country. So we are caught in this particular dilemma. We are caught in the dilemma where we want to see action or resolution on the illegal immigration. but we also feel that we ought to be able to have a short time period set aside to speak to the issues which are of fundamental economic importance to 13 million American families. We think their interests are important. too. We think their interests should at least demand a half hour or an hour of the Senates time this afternoon.
