Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040199333

The habeas corpus provisions in this bill are reason enough to oppose It. They are certainly not the only thing wrong with this bill. I would also like to note for the record my concern about the bills changes to asylum law which severely threaten our countrys rich history of providing refuge for people fleeing persecution In their homelands. The bill eliminates the suspension of deportation for anyone who enters this country without Inspection. It also establishes summary removal at ports of entry if people lack valid documents. Valid documents are often difficult to find or to protect In wartom countries.
