It is instructive to put it in at this time because I think this might be able to add a dimension in being more effective in terms of protecting Americans In job situations. I think. first. as the Senator pointed out. if the person represents that they are a citizen and they are not and they get the job. they are undermining the ability of the AmerIcan to have the Job. Second. if they do it in terms of the welfare provisions. they are basically undermining the American taxpayers and doing it for fraudulent reasons. The penalty would be deportation or exclusion. as I understand the amendment. So it seems to me to make a good deal of sense from any point of view. I hope tomorrow we will accept the amendment.
