We cant even afford to pay the INS to keep up with its current workload. much less pay for a giant new system. And in the end. even if all these problems could be resolved. nothing. I repeat. nothing in this Big Brother verification system will prevent the black market from selling stolen Social Security numbers. Nor will it prevent a situation like the sweatshop owner in El Monte. CA. who deliberately broke the law and hired undocumented workers. The Big Brother approach will serve only to impose new requirements on businesses that are already complying with the law and do nothing to punish those that are not. Let us not forget the basic principle that makes this country great: Freedom.
