Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040191295

Citizens for a Sound Economy. NFIB. and the Food Marketing Institute. Mr. Chairman. I wholeheartedly agree with Grover Norquist. who is the president of Americans for Tax Reform. when he said. whether voluntary or mandatory. employment verification represents an enormous intrusion by the Federal Government into the rights of individuals. The debate should not be over what type of employment verification systems we have but whether we really have an employment verification system at all. I realize. living in Idaho. that we have problems with illegal immigration. but let us not reach so far that we violate our own civil rights.
