I oppose the worker verification system. which is really a 100 big brother system. because it is an onerous imposition on businesses in my district and in my State of Texas. I have spoken with Houston grocery store owners and those in the food industry In Houston. and they have voiced to me their concerns about the callin verification system. A callin system will not prevent fraud because verifying a new hires name and Social Security number does not prevent the fraud of an illegal alien using the name and Social Security number of someone else who is eligible to work. The grocery industry is labor intensive. employing more than 3 million people. and experiences high turnover. Some stores hire 50 to 150 new employees each week during the Christmas season.
