Chairman. as much as I admire my friend the ranking member. his talking about the camels nose under the tent reinforces my view that. if we were to restrict free speech at all. we should make it illegal to use metaphors in the discussion of public policy. We are not talking about camels. noses and tents. We are talking about whether or not we have a rational approach to enforcing the laws against illegal immigration. I have to say that. of all the things In my life that puzzle me. why so many of my liberal friends have such an aversion to this simple measure is the greatest. As a matter of fact. if we do not use an identification system. let us be very clear. we are not talking about a card anybody has to carry anywhere.
