We believe that local governments do a much more effective job. We would rather have them than those that brought us Ruby Ridge and Waco handling these types of affairs rather than the Federal Government ultimately. I think it would be a good idea. Mr. Chairman. this amendment would allow the State and local goveminent officials to apprehend and detain illegal aliens who are caught violating deportation orders. Currently these officials are allowed to notify the INS but not anything else. INS just does not have the manpower to apprehend the illegals that are flooding the border States. like Arizona. and would welcome the help from local law enforcement.
