Mr. Chairman. I thank my colleague for yielding me time. and especially for his leadership on this issue. I am trying to understand this amendment. and certainly I think all of us come to this issue of immigration and the question of illegal and legal immigration hopefully with somewhat of an open mind. but with a sense of fairness. Mr. Chairman. I heard the gentleman who just spoke cite crime statistics. I would like us to look at that. because we are told and we have documentation by the Justice Department. FBI. and many local law enforcements that indicate that over the last couple of years. crime has gone down.
