The school population is expanding by 10 percent. rising to over 50 million students. We need new technologies and computers in the schools. We are asking our schools in this country to do more and more as they are faced with different kinds of challenges. whether it is violence. substance abuse. immigration. use of many languages. or other kinds of challenges. how can we cut education now? All we are saying with this amendment is let us fulfill the promise that was given by Republican and Democratic leaders at that time when they agreed to a balanced budget in 7 years. CBO numbers. but protect education.
