Mr. President. that I feel very strongly about from my days growing up where education was very heavily stressed in the Specter household really because my parents had so little of it. My father. as an immigrant from Russia. coming to this country as a young man of 18. had no formal education at all. My mother came with her family when she was 5 years old from a small town on the RussianPolish border and she went to only the eighth grade. Her father. my grandfather. died of a heart attack in his midforties. and she had to leave school in the eighth grade to help support the family.
