Speech #1040101139

Mr. Chairman. I understand that following the closure of the border patrol checkpoints at San Clemente and Temecula. CA. approximately $7.5 million will be available for INS border and infrastructure improvements. subject to approval by your committee. I would request that. In the course of evaluating proposals for this funding. that you would consider using the funding for construction of fencing along the border area in San Diego. The comprehensive immigration reform legislation that is now pending before the Committee on the Judiciary. that Is. H.R. 1915. includes the authorization for an additional border fencing project and road improvements in the San Diego sector. and this would augment our program increases for border security and the enforcement of our immigration laws.
