Session #104 · 1995–97

Speech #1040083537

I was born under a different flag. After a brutal dictatorship took control of Cuba. the land of my birth. I journeyed to freedom and came to the United States as a refugee. I remember well that day when I raised my right hand and swore allegiance to this great country. All of us who came to this country as refugees from a brutal tyranny know how much the American flag means for lovers of liberty and democracy. And we know jut how great and important are the American values that have led so many American soldiers. sailors. marines and airmen over the centuries. to pick up our flag and march into battle against those who threaten our freedom. This year we have celebrated the 50th anniversary of the final year of World War Il.
