Our effort with this bill is to get the program back to this mission. Under our bill. the growth rate of the EITC program would be slowed. the top income eligibility level would be retainedrather than increasedto concentrate the program on the poor and reduce waste. fraud. and abuse. Our bill would deny the tax credit to illegal aliens and include nontaxed sources of income and substantial amounts of wealth to determine eligibility. Our measure would also repeal the 1993 extension of the credit to taxpayers without children. The program was originally intended to assist our Nations children. and we must get back to that most basic of requirements.
