Session #103 · 1993–95

Speech #1030083171

There is no reason why a postal employee or a welder at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard would be denied the right to participate in the political system. I have been concerned. however. about possible abuse by FBI. INS. IRS. and CIA officers who could intimidate voters. explicitly or implicitly. Over the years. I have proposed amendments to restrain these small classes of Federal investigative employees from engaging in politics. Imagine the pressure an IRS or an immigration agent could exert in a closeknit urban neighborhood? We cannot allow even a hint of this potential for abuse to taint the electoral process. With the restrictions included by the Senate.
