Speaker. today I would like to call my colleagues attention to the 100th anniversary of Svoboda. the official newspaper of the Ukrainian National Association. This remarkable publication which was first printed in New Jersey. has been a valuable source of information for UkrainianAmericans since its Inception. Early Ukrainian Immigrants turned to Svoboda to maintain their ties to the Ukrainian community and their unique cultural identity. Over the years Svoboda has played a critical role in alerting Americans to Ukraines continuing quest for independence which it ultimately realized in 1991. Svoboda. which means liberty is truly a fitting name for this historic newspaper.
