Madam President. today marks the centennial anniversary of Svoboda. the official newspaper of the Ukrainian National Association. For 100 years. Svoboda has provided hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian immigrants. in America and elsewhere. news about the situation in Ukraine and events around the world. Svoboda has long served as a pipeline of reliable information on key developments in Ukraine. such as the 193233 famine resulting from Joseph Stalins brutal repression of the Ukrainian people. and more recently. the events leading to the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the Ukrainian nations struggle for independence. It is only fitting that "Svoboda"which means libertyshould celebrate its hundredth anniversary at a time when Ukraine is independent and on the road to democracy.
